Ansett workers to receive more owed money

Former Ansett employees will receive an average of approximately $1,600 of outstanding entitlements in the tenth dividend since the collapse of the company.

Former Ansett employee David Lupton :”We have battled for so long to just receive what we are owed. This money gives all Ansett employees like me some hope that one day we may get close to receiving the money that is rightfully ours.

The Ansett administrators released the Eighth Report to Creditors on 11 April 2008 and it outlines that employees should be receiving the next instalment of entitlements almost immediately.

Ansett’s 15,000 former staff have now received $697.8 million, which means that on average each employee will have received approximately 92 cents in the dollar.

TWU Secretary Tony Sheldon: “This payment will mean more money in the pockets of former Ansett employees and is another positive step forward in what has been a long campaign for all of the employees.

“All the former Ansett employees like David Lupton should be proud of their continued fight to receive what they are owed.”
The administrators believe that over the next few years that $712.6 million of the $758 million owed to employees will be paid.
