So much for Joe Hockey’s help!
Over 1 month ago Joe Hockey announced that McArthur Express employees would be covered under the Federal Government’s General Employees Entitlements Scheme (GEERS).
Only 11 out of 400 of the eligible employees have been paid any monies under the GEERS scheme.
National Secretary of the Transport Workers’ Union Tony Sheldon said “Joe Hockey has failed to deliver for the employees of McArthur Express.
“This was meant to be an emergency payment. What type of emergency payment takes over a month to come through and reaches less than 3% of those affected?” said Tony Sheldon.
Angela Doron from Quakers Hill said “I sent off my GEERS Paperwork straight away and I’m still waiting… I’m worried they will forget about us once the election is over..”
Melissa Morison from Kellyville said “I’ve sent off my paper work twice and I’m still waiting… I thought Mr Hockey said this was an emergency response – I’m glad he’s not responsible for the SES.”
Brian & Danielle Milson from Terigal said “We had difficulty in filling in our paperwork – when we called the GEERS info line for help they transferred us at least three times – we have no idea when we’ll see any money.”
