Transport Workers Union of Australia News and Updates

Statement from the Transport Workers’ Union:
22 September 2007

Allegations regarding the TWU’s Training, Education and Industrial Rights training fund made today on the Sunday program on Channel 9 are now the subject of an independent audit.

Although the TWU’s accounts are externally audited, as required by law, the Union’s Administrative Committee has decided to take the additional step of referring all financial records and relevant documents concerning the Fund to Deloitte, one of Australia’s largest accounting firms, in order for Deloitte to conduct a full and independent audit.

In recent weeks the TWU has raised both directly with the company and in legal proceedings that Blue Collar has failed to apply correct rates of pay to its workers.

Primarily, the Transport Workers’ Union is concerned about the safety and job security of transport workers nationwide. We will continue to fight for fair and safe rates for all working Australian families under the harshest industrial relations climate experienced in more than 150 years.
