THE ATA HAS FORGOTTEN ITS ROLE, TWU
Recent changes to the role of the Australian Trucking Association means the ATA is losing its long term focus with some members of the General Council involved in blatant power grabbing.
Mark Crosdale, spokesperson from the Transport Workers’ Union on the ATA wants wider consultation with industry associations.
Mr Crosdale argues consultation is fundamental to continue past successes through the spirit of cooperation.
The ATA has been an institution in this country for almost 18 years after being created as the Road Transport Forum in 1989.
Mr Crosdale believes that the strength and long term success of the ATA is largely owed to its representation of all aspects of the transport industry.
“The ATA is based on a whole of industry approach – this is why it has continued to exist for so long.
“Why would we turn away from the model that has meant such long term success? “ said Mr Crosdale.
The transport industry is facing a number of challenges including workforce challenges, safety concerns, and pressures from clients.
“We need to have genuine representation of road transport from a peak body such as the ATA.
“We should be holding clients accountable for the pressures they place on the industry.
“This is no time for power struggles and games, and there must be cooperation between all industry associations within the ATA,” Mr Crosdale said.
