Fair Work Australia's decision to ratify an agreement for increased pay rates for licensed aircraft engineers and to ensure that work is required to be undertaken by licensed engineers is a practical solution for the union and their members. The Transport Workers’ Union (TWU) has today (04.12.11) welcomed the overwhelming support shown by the Labor Party to the workers and families involved in the ongoing dispute with Qantas/Jetstar management. At the ALP conference this morning, delegates endorsed the TWU’s amendment to the Labor platform to support majority ownership and the operation of Australian airlines in Australia.
More than 600 Australians are taking to the streets today (03.12.11) to show their support for Qantas/Jetstar workers in the ongoing dispute with management. ‘Qantas Families Day’ is an initiative of a number of Trade Unions representing workers employed by the airline.
The TWU will move towards immediate arbitration of the Qantas dispute. At the same time, the union will be calling for an aviation award to be established across the industry.
