Strike Planned for PWCS

Release date: 7/05/2013

Unions at the Port Waratah Coal Services coal loaders in Newcastle have lodged notices of intended industrial action from 6pm on Sunday.

Ian Kirkwood, The Herald

Notices lodged with the Fair Work Commission show employees at the  Rio Tinto-backed company’s Carrington and Kooragang loaders intend proceeding with a series of ‘’unlimited’’ bans and limitations.

The industrial action includes bans on overtime and restrictions on shift changes.

The industrial action is not aimed at Newcastle’s third loader, which is operated on Kooragang by the BHP-backed Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group.

Members of the Maritime Union of Australia, the Transport Workers Union, the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, the Electrical Trades Union and the Australian Workers Union are taking part in the industrial action.

The unions say eight months of talks over a new enterprise agreement have stalled.

The Herald is seeking comment from PWCS.
