HYMIX LOCKS OUT WORKERS FOR THREE DAYS: COMPANY INSISTS ON PAYING QLD WORKERS LESS THAN NSW

Release date: 12/02/2015

Hymix has locked out workers at eight depots across Brisbane and the Gold Coast for exercising their right to fight for a fair EBA, to bring them up to the pay rate of workers doing the same job in NSW.

“The TWU is in this for the long haul and backs our members 100 percent in doing what it takes to get a fair deal for their families,” TWU QLD Secretary Peter Biagini said.

Today the company locked workers out for three days, in response to workers attending a two hour meeting under protected action to discuss their EBA.

“These workers are fighting for their livelihoods. They have lost half their wages for the week because the company has locked them out,” Mr Biagini said.

“Hymix locking these workers out is an extreme and unnecessary action which has harmed negotiations and made it harder to reach an agreement.

“By locking workers out the company has taken response action which will change the way negotiations proceed from here on in.

“The TWU will continue to fight for our members’ right to equal wages to bring them to parity with the wages NSW have had going back as far as 2006, and fair conditions protecting their job security and superannuation.

“The TWU will fight alongside our members until a fair agreement is reached.

“The TWU will not rule out further protected action until the company re-enters negotiations in good faith.”

Hymix depots affected by the negotiations are:
  • Springwood
  • Cleveland
  • Coomera
  • Windsor
  • Park Ridge
  • Southport
  • Wacol
  • Chinderah

Ends.
