Adelaide Bus Drivers Lodge for Protected Action
Release date: 16/01/2017
TWU SA/NT Branch Media Release, 16 January 2017
On 16 January 2017 the Transport Workers Union of Australia lodged a protected action ballot with the Fair Work Commission. Members of the TWU employed by Light City Buses will be participating in the vote as they fight for safe rates in the bus industry.
After 7 months of negotiations, unhappy with the Companies proposed document, drivers voted down the proposed agreement with an overwhelming 98% No vote. Light City Buses were seeking to change many hard fought for conditions, while also rejecting driver claims endorsed by TWU membership.
TWU SA/NT Branch Secretary Ray Wyatt said "unfortunately the public will be caught up in this dispute if strikes are taken but our drivers take their agreement and conditions very seriously and this is what needs to happen to show the Company they mean business. All drivers want is fair pay and a safe workplace, so they can continue doing the job they love with dignity."
