Coles Online drivers deserve better!

Coles Online Delivery Drivers carry out the same work as other delivery drivers. But they don't enjoy the same pay and conditions. Coles has attempted to classify drivers as retail employees which allows them to offer conditions that are far below what a delivery driver gets:

  •  When Coles Online Delivery Drivers work on a Saturday they receive almost $7 less per hour than they should.

  •  Coles Online Delivery Drivers who start work before 5.30am on a weekday are paid almost $7 less per hour than they should be.

  •  Coles Online Delivery Drivers do not enjoy the same safe, driver-appropriate conditions that they should.

  • Coles Online Delivery Drivers do not have choice to become permanent after 12 months, if they choose.

The Transport Workers Union has been working hard to tackle these issues by demanding Coles recognize these workers for what they are, delivery drivers. The question as to whether they are transport workers or retail workers is now before the courts.

Coles has filed with Fair Work Australia claiming that delivery drivers are retail employees, not drivers.  We are currently negotiating with the company and intend to file wage claims on behalf of delivery drivers in Federal Magistrates court to establish that, as a minimum, Coles Online delivery drivers should get pay and conditions under the transport award.

A decision on these cases will take a number of weeks, and we will keep you informed as to developments.
